چکیده

We announce the discovery of Kepler-6b, a transiting hot Jupiter orbiting a star with unusually high metallicity, [Fe/H] = +0.34± 0.04. The planet’s mass is about 2/3 that of Jupiter, MP = 0.67MJ, and the radius is 30% larger than that of Jupiter, RP = 1.32RJ, resulting in a density of ρP = 0.35 g cm−3, a fairly typical value for such a planet. The orbital period is P = 3.235 days. The host star is both more massive than the Sun, M = 1.21M , and larger than the Sun, R = 1.39 R .

Stellar spin-orbit misalignment in a multiplanet system.

Stars hosting hot Jupiters are often observed to have high obliquities, whereas stars with multiple coplanar planets have been seen to have low obliquities. This has been interpreted as evidence that hot-Jupiter formation is linked to dynamical disruption, as opposed to planet migration through a protoplanetary disk. We used asteroseismology to measure a large obliquity for Kepler-56, a red gia...

HAT - P - 11 b : A SUPER - NEPTUNE PLANET TRANSITING A BRIGHT K STAR IN THE KEPLER FIELD

We report on the discovery of HAT-P-11b, the smallest radius transiting extrasolar planet (TEP), and the first hot Neptune discovered to date by transit searches. HAT-P-11b orbits the bright (V=9.587) and metal rich ([Fe/H] = +0.31 ± 0.05) K4 dwarf star GSC 03561-02092 with P = 4.8878162 ± 0.0000071 days and produces a transit signal with depth of 4.2mmag; the shallowest found by transit search...

A Low Stellar Obliquity for Wasp-47, a Compact Multiplanet System with a Hot Jupiter and an Ultra-short Period Planet

We have detected the Rossiter-Mclaughlin effect during a transit of WASP-47b, the only known hot Jupiter with close planetary companions. By combining our spectroscopic observations with Kepler photometry, we show that the projected stellar obliquity is λ = 0± 24. We can firmly exclude a retrograde orbit for WASP47b, and rule out strongly misaligned prograde orbits. Low obliquities have also be...

A Bayesian Analysis of HAT-P-7b Using the EXONEST Algorithm

The study of exoplanets (planets orbiting other stars) is revolutionizing the way we view our universe. High-precision photometric data provided by the Kepler Space Telescope (Kepler) enables not only the detection of such planets, but also their characterization. This presents a unique opportunity to apply Bayesian methods to better characterize the multitude of previously confirmed exoplanets...

A Transiting Jupiter Analog

Decadal-long radial velocity surveys have recently started to discover analogs to the most influential planet of our solar system, Jupiter. Detecting and characterizing these worlds is expected to shape our understanding of our uniqueness in the cosmos. Despite the great successes of recent transit surveys, Jupiter analogs represent a terra incognita, owing to the strong intrinsic bias of this ...
